THREE TIPS FOR DEALING WITH ANXIETY
Do you feel like you have been experiencing a lot of anxiety or stress lately? Do you feel like you are behaving differently at home or in school, having difficulty concentrating or focus, beginning to worry a lot, or showing physical symptoms like headaches or tummy aches, then read on. This article is especially for you.
Please also know you are not alone in your feelings. Many other kids and teens are experiencing the same feelings. Try using the following tips to help decrease your worries and stress.
TALK TO YOUR PARENTS OR TRUSTED ADULT
Take some time to tell your parents or a trusted adult how you feel during the day at a particular moment. You can make a list of the feelings you are experiencing when dealing with a stressful or anxious moment and then share your list with them. It will give them a clearer understanding of how you are feeling and how they can help. This is also a great way to help remove the pressure that occurs when trying to speak about your feelings.
MAKE A WORRY BOX
A great stress reliever can be writing down what is causing your stress and anxiety and placing it in a worry box daily. (A worry box is a small box that you create to contain your worries. It’s a safe place to put your worries and allow them to leave you for a while.) After that, you have the choice to discuss the matter with your loved ones especially parents. This helps to continue to have control over your worries by discussing them and also by noticing that the worries don’t always stay in the box:-) They are able to leave because things do get better. So keep track of all the worries you are eventually able to tear up and throw in the trash:-)
CREATE A CALM BOX
A calm box is when you select several specific items that make you feel calm and happy. You then keep those special items in a special box that you created. You can use your five senses to get you started: such as taste (anything you like to eat or drink), sound (favorite music), sight (memory or funny photos), touch (cushion or a teddy bear) and smell (beads or lavender), etc. You can then go to your calm box whenever you feel you need some time to relieve a bit of stress or anxiety.
Use these tips regularly to begin to decrease your anxiety and start bringing in more happiness.
